Within our solar system the distance between two planets or a planet and the sun or the sun and a satellite are generally measured in Astronomical Units.
The astronomical unit is defined as the mean distance between Earth and the Sun
We do this since these distances are very large and when expressed in meter, the numerical value is very large and sometimes difficult to remember.
